Resurfaced footage from a 2021 segment of ABC’s “The View” shows a very awkward moment when the panelists attempted to host an interview with Vice President Kamala Harris. Just as Harris was about to walk on set, it was revealed on air that two hosts, Sunny Hostin and Ana Navarro, had tested positive for COVID-19.
This last-minute discovery forced the crew to scramble and reorganize the interview with Harris to occur virtually in a different room while in the same building. Ironically, it was later discovered that the COVID tests were false positives and that Hostin and Navarro did not actually have COVID. Reports at the time indicated that Vice President Harris’ office was highly displeased with “The View” over the incident.
A clip of the incident shows the two co-hosts, who were thought to have had COVID-19, being asked to step off the set before Kamala was introduced virtually. “What happened is that Sonny and Anna both apparently tested positive for COVID. No matter how hard we try, these things happen. They probably have a breakthrough case, and they’ll be okay, I’m sure, because it’s vaccinated up the wazoo. You know, a lot of vaccines,” co-host Joy Behar announced.
A member of the production crew weighed in with the updated plan, “I have an update. So just already have an update. Everything’s just being done to be as safe as humanly possible. So what we’re going to try to do now is do interview with the Vice President remotely, right in a couple minutes. So that’s the plan. We’re going to talk to her from another room … even though she’s in the building, just to be safe.”
“Just want to say, I hope that you’re in a safe spot right now. We did everything we could to make sure that you were safe, because we value you so much,” Behar told the vice president virtually. “Well, thank you, Joy and to everyone. And listen, I sunny and Anna are strong women, and I know they’re fine, but it really also does speak to the fact that they’re vaccinated,” Harris responded.
The vice president took the opportunity to further push vaccines on the audience, “And vaccines really make all the difference, because otherwise we would be concerned about hospitalization and worse.” However, in a later segment, Behar gave an update that the prior test results were false positives. “Throughout the weekend, this was happening too, and I am thrilled to report that sunny and as Friday, results turned out to be false positives, and everyone is safe and covid free,” she said. “Okay, no one’s got it. It was a mistake of some sort.”
