Sunny Hostin, co-host of The View, found herself at the center of controversy after delivering harsh remarks about Brittany Mahomes, the wife of NFL superstar Patrick Mahomes, during Wednesday’s episode. Hostin’s comments were in response to Brittany’s interaction with a social media post by former President Donald Trump, which ignited a whirlwind of criticism across various platforms. The outspoken host accused Brittany Mahomes of supporting a man who she says holds racist views—calling into question Brittany’s judgment, especially as the mother of biracial children.
Last month Brittany Mahomes liked a post on Instagram shared by Trump on August 13, leading to an intense online backlash by liberals. While a simple Instagram like might seem innocuous, it didn’t go unnoticed, particularly by those critical of Trump. The reaction on social media was swift with some condemning Brittany for perceived political affiliations, while others defended her right to express herself freely.
Rather than retreating from the controversy, Brittany Mahomes chose to address it head-on. On August 23, she posted a pointed message to her Instagram Story, seemingly aimed at her critics. “I mean honestly, to be a hater as an adult, you have to have some deep rooted issues you refuse to heal from childhood. There’s no reason your brain is fully developed and you hate to see others doing well,” she wrote, leaving little doubt about her feelings towards those attacking her.
Her bold stance continued days later when she shared another message on Instagram, emphasizing the importance of civil disagreement. “Contrary to the tone of the world today….you can disagree with someone, and still love them. You can have differing views, and still be kind,” the post read. Brittany, amplifying the sentiment, added, “Read that again!” She stood firm in her belief that differing political opinions should not lead to personal attacks or hostility.
The saga took a new turn when Sunny Hostin decided to weigh in during Wednesday’s episode of The View. Hostin didn’t hold back, suggesting that Brittany’s actions were hypocritical, given her interracial marriage to Patrick Mahomes and their biracial children. “It just seems to me that since she is in an interracial marriage, she should have known that to support a racist is problematic,” Hostin claimed.
“Her children are biracial and her family is one of the families that in the 70s could not have lived in any of Donald Trump’s buildings. So it just seems to me that maybe she’s just not that politically savvy or maybe she’s just not read in,” she finished.
Co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin noted that while it’s unclear if Mahomes openly supports Trump, her likes on certain posts and comments suggest she may. “Granted, all we know is that she liked a Trump post,” Griffin explained. “We don’t know she—she hasn’t stated that she supported him, but that’s fair to interpret that she may have. But we don’t know that she’s a supporter.”
Taylor Swift, now dating Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, has made appearances with Patrick and Brittany Mahomes at several events following her endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris.
