Former President Donald Trump provided free rooms and boarding to hundreds of power and light company linemen who assembled in Florida ahead of Hurricane Milton this week.
On Wednesday, Eric Trump, son of the former president, posted a 24-second clip on the social media platform X, welcoming 275 linemen from Florida Power & Light Company to the Trump National Doral Miami golf resort.
The linemen will be staying free of charge as they prepare to address the widespread power outages anticipated in the wake of the violent storm.
“Honored to have 275 incredible linemen from FPL at @TrumpDoral as they get ready to respond to the aftermath of Hurricane #Milton! You are amazing and the Trump Family, and entire state of Florida, appreciates you! Enjoy the rooms – they are the best in Florida! Be safe!” the president’s son wrote on the X platform.
According to Florida’s Voice, Republican Governor Ron DeSantis announced on Wednesday that over 50,000 linemen from across the country—marking the largest staging of its kind in U.S. history—are prepared to respond Friday morning as the storm exits the state. More than 3.5 million are without power, according to local reports.
“As soon as that storm passes, you’re going to see the assessments and the power restoration efforts commence immediately,” DeSantis said.
In the meantime, hundreds of linemen stayed at first-class accommodations at the former president’s golf resort.
“As one of Condé Nast Traveler’s 2024 Readers’ Choice Award winners for Best Resorts in Florida, Trump National Doral Miami continues to set the standard for luxury and excellence,” per the resort’s website.
Guest rooms start at $251 per night with suites starting at $451.
Supporters of the former president were not surprised by his characteristic generosity.
On Thursday, DeSantis torched Vice President Kamala Harris after she claimed he was “selfish” for attending to his state and his residents as Milton approached. She also claimed that she tried to contact him but he allegedly refused her phone call, which he denied.
“All she’s trying to do is inject herself to be a part of her political campaign. I don’t have time for political games,” DeSantis told a news conference. “I’ve got a job to do, we’ve got people’s lives on the line, and that is our sole focus.”
“If I honestly thought there was something to be gained, I would pick up the phone and call her. The fact of the matter is she has no role in this process. She’s not part of the chain of command. I am working with President Biden, FEMA, state and local partners, and we’re getting the job done,” he continued.
“She has never been interested in any of the storms we’ve had in the state of Florida her entire time as Vice President. Now she’s out there attacking me because I’m not ceding to her whims.
